EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM

The purpose of this program is to work with students who have not been able to meet with success in their own classroom. The students will be provided with the educational opportunity to maximize their mental, physical, social, and emotional growth. In order for our students to succeed, school must become a positive experience. The main goal is to provide the students with individual support, positive reinforcement, and a structured setting in which the student can achieve his full academic potential while learning appropriate social and classroom behaviors.

This structured environment is designed to encourage the student to become more responsible for his own behavior by making appropriate choices that have positive consequences. Compliance is expected from all students. The students receive instruction in the following content areas: math, reading, spelling, language arts, social studies, science, art, handwriting, phonics, music, PE, and computers. Because the program contains more than one grade level in the classroom, each student has a different schedule, although some overlapping is necessary. Each student is assigned work appropriate for him/her on an individual basis. Group activities are planned to foster group interaction.

Open communication is greatly encouraged between the home and school to help insure the student’s success. A parent’s support of the school and program is important so that the child sees the home and school as a team working in his best interest. In assisting students to alter and improve their behaviors, we move toward the ultimate goal, mainstreaming into the regular classroom.
